Request Midwifery Care

A Message to Clients: Please Re-Apply for Midwifery Care

With sincere regret, we want to let you know that an unexpected system issue has led to the permanent loss of client applications submitted through the Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) online portal between February 1 and July 7, 2025.

We understand how unsettling and inconvenient this may be, and we are truly sorry. The loss did not result from a security breach or unauthorized access. The issue occurred during regular system operations managed by a trusted external contractor. Despite every effort to recover the data, it could not be restored. To move forward, we have restored the system using a backup from January 31, 2025, and we’re implementing stronger protections to prevent this from happening again.

What You Can Do:

  • If you submitted a request for midwifery care between February 1 and July 7, please re-submit your application.

  • We understand the extra effort this requires and are here to support you.

Apply for Care here and for more assistance please reach out to clientcare@alberta-midwives.ca

We are incredibly grateful for your understanding and continued trust in Alberta midwives. Your care and wellbeing remain at the heart of everything we do.

If you are pregnant and interested in midwifery care, please complete our Request for Care form.

By submitting a request, you will join a wait pool that is not a ‘top-of-the-list, first-in list.’ The wait pool is unranked and reviewed frequently by your preferred midwifery practices. If and when a spot becomes available, you will be contacted directly and offered care. Due to the high number of care requests received each month, you will not be contacted unless there is a space available for you.

Completing a request for care does not guarantee you a space with a midwifery practice. If you have not been contacted by a midwifery practice by 10-12 weeks gestation, please arrange appropriate prenatal care through another primary care provider.

Even if there are no midwives practicing in your area, we encourage all pregnant people in Alberta who would like midwifery care to apply, as this helps demonstrate the need for midwifery services in your community and supports future workforce planning.

For questions or help, please contact us at clientcare@alberta-midwives.ca.

"I literally can't imagine having a birth any other way. I was so lucky to be low risk and to learn how amazing midwives are before getting pregnant.”
