ROLE DESCRIPTION  

This is an exciting opportunity for Midwives who are committed to building a practice that will deliver comprehensive maternity care. Chinook midwives Practice is in a vibrant community with growing interest and increase demand for midwifery care in Lethbridge and its surrounding areas. We are a close-knit group of women, dedicated to our craft, have a combination of primary call midwives and shared call midwives.

Registered Midwives practicing in Lethbridge are part of the maternal care team and have Clinical Privileges at Chinook Regional Hospital, working collaboratively as part of the team which includes Community Family Practice, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Nursing, Pediatrics, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. 

The Chinook Regional Hospital is the main hospital for the City of Lethbridge and many surrounding areas. The facility offers maternal services, surgical services, and a NICU 24/7. 

RMs are not employees of AHS, but contracted providers who are granted an AHS Appointment and Clinical Privileges in the geographic area where they practice. 

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: 

  • Reside in the community of Lethbridge or surrounding areas 

  • Provide midwifery services within the community of Lethbridge 

  • Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities 

  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned 

  • Work collaboratively as part of the maternal care team in the community of Lethbridge 

QUALIFICATIONS 

This role requires the applicant to be eligible for registration with the College of Midwives of Alberta (CMA). Prior to beginning practice in the community, a successful candidate will require a valid Practice Permit from the CMA and hold appropriate liability insurance. 

LOCAL MIDWIFERY SERVICES 

Chinook Midwives is an established practice, serving a large catchment in the southwest corner of Alberta. The practice cares for clients within the city of Lethbridge and the surrounding areas. We have an increasing home birth rate of 30-50%. The practice has a functional clinic set up in the city of Lethbridge. 

The practice is excited to have additional Registered Midwives, to help cover this area.

COMPENSATION 

-Remuneration for midwifery services through AHS will be funded through a contracted midwifery practice. 

-Midwifery Alternate Relationship Plan is available to support alternate services in the community provide by a RM. 

-Relocation allowance is available for Midwives moving from out of Province.
