Quality Assurance: Infection Protection and Control (IPAC)

The Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) has been proactive in addressing infection protection and control (IPAC) measures and keeping pace with ever-evolving standards since COVID-19. The Board of Directors has included work on IPAC in our strategic plans since December 2019, and as of April 2022 decided to elevate this work to one of our top areas of focus. Midwives take client safety very seriously and are always working to improve best practices around client care and infection prevention.

As such, we have engaged with a Certified In Infection Control (CIC) IPAC consultant, to build an IPAC program that is consistent with provincial and national guidelines, other health professions, and the Canadian Public Health Organizations which address the specific needs of midwives in Alberta.

In collaboration with our consultant, the College of Midwives of Alberta and the Provincial Midwifery of Alberta Office (PMAO), we are committed to providing resources that will help Alberta midwives meet the IPAC Standards that are developed by the College of Midwives of Alberta to ensure that midwifery practices have the support they need to continue providing exceptional care. Any Alberta midwife or member of the public that would like support in this area or has further questions please email the Alberta Association of Midwives at info@alberta-midwives.ca or the College of Midwives at registrar@albertamidwives.org.
